How gender-balance powers creativity at EM

EM’s continued support for POWERful Women (PfW) demonstrates our firmly held belief in the wide-ranging benefits gender diversity brings to a team.

Research consistently shows that companies with more diverse teams are more innovative, make better decisions, and achieve higher financial performance. And from firsthand experience here at EM, we know that gender balance fuels creativity too.

“Our team is split approximately 50:50 in terms of gender, and that balance brings real benefits to us a creative business,” explains EM Managing Director, Ian Goodall. “Individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences tackle the same challenge in different ways. This creates a broader range of solutions and increases the chances of arriving at that big creative idea. In a rapidly evolving business environment, this enhances an agency’s ability to respond to clients’ changing needs.”

“The EM team approach problem-solving from multiple angles, and I think that gender balance has a lot to do with that,” comments EM Account Manager, Ria Buachie. “As a newcomer to the team, I find that collaborating with colleagues who have a range of backgrounds provides lots of ideas, but also  challenges to assumptions when tackling a client brief. This undoubtedly fuels more creative solutions.”

Like all companies in the Emberson Group, EM is an independent, employee-owned agency, with a ‘work from anywhere’ policy that gives people the flexibility to balance work and family commitments. This approach has clearly helped us achieve gender balance across the Group, and no doubt contributed in no small part to Emberson recently receiving the prestigious Great Place to Work award.

All of which explains why we’re delighted to be sponsoring the POWERful Women conference for a second consecutive year, and why we’re so proud of our Development Director, Natalie Sweet, who’ll be running a workshop at this year’s event to help people become better communicators and inspire positive change.
