Re:cognise #7 - Exploring inspirational individuals

EM is powered by brilliant people. As a remote-first business, our greatest asset is our team - their talent, individuality, and drive. We invest in their growth, and in return, we get to watch them thrive, challenge norms, and elevate everything we do.

Our Re:cognise series is all about spotlighting the amazing people we work with and the ones who inspire them.

Today we check in with Account Manager, Ria Buachie.

What makes a positive role model for you?

Someone who challenges the way you think and encourages you to broaden your perspective. They inspire you to grow and improve, by helping you discover what makes you unique and build your confidence in the process.

I believe a true role model isn’t afraid to call you out when necessary; they offer constructive criticism in a way that pushes you forward. I love that kind of honesty and support.

I think that’s why many people see family members as their role models - the lack of filters and the openness to give direct, sometimes uncomfortable, feedback can be incredibly valuable for growth.

My role models

I don’t have one specific role model - I find inspiration in many people. That inspiration drives me to push myself, reflect, and consider new ways of thinking.

For example, PJ Vogt and his podcast Search Engine tackle thought-provoking questions that really shift your perspective. Another person who stands out for me is Bozoma Saint John, CMO at Netflix - she’s a powerhouse in the world of marketing, and her embrace of vulnerability and authenticity is incredibly inspiring.

How do you try to be a role model to others?

I’m not really sure, but I try to support others by encouraging them to reflect on their goals and pursue what they’re passionate about. I believe in championing that ‘just do it’ mentality - helping people believe in their ideas and take action to bring them to life.
